A BAMBOO-ROOT BRUSH POT CARVED WITH CHRYSANTHEMUM, ROCKS AND LINGZHI 尺寸：D:11.2cm;H:14cm 竹雕。 A bamboo brush pot following the natural root form, its exterior carved in relief with clusters of chrysanthemum, turning leaves, ornamental rock and lingzhi fungus. The carving is rounded, the bamboo yellow-brown and lustrous, the rim left to the natural contour. The chrysanthemum is the flower of the recluse, linked to Tao Yuanming's line of plucking chrysanthemums by the eastern hedge and gazing at the southern hills. On a studio pot it evokes a life unconcerned with rank; the lingzhi added nearby carries a wish for longevity.
