英文品名:A HUANGHUALI OFFICIAL'S TRAVELING CHEST 尺寸:L:33cm;W:28cm;H:38cm 黃花梨木製。 A huanghuali wood official's traveling chest, with a hinged top and a pair of paneled doors above the base, concealing drawers within. It is fitted throughout with polished brass mounts, front plate, hinges and lock plates in ruyi-cloud shapes, secured by brass studs. The wood shows swirling warm golden-brown grain over a mellow patina. The base has a ruyi-cut apron and inward-turned feet, following the traditional Ming-Qing official's chest form. The official's chest was not a document case but a small travelling storage box used by officials on journeys and by ladies for dressing-table items. The hinged top and pair of doors conceal several internal drawers for jewels, seals, small curios and medicines, portable on horseback or boat. From the Ming onward huanghuali and zitan were the preferred woods, fitted with brass plates, hinges and locks that both reinforced and decorated the case. The form ran unchanged from Ming through Qing.
