英文品名：A ZITAN WOOD RECTANGULAR BOX, OPENWORK CARVED, WITH A GILT "QIANLONG NIANZHI" MARK 尺寸：L:12cm;W:9cm;H:4cm 紫檀木長方蓋盒。盒身扁方，蓋面開光，內鏤空雕纏枝瓜果紋，下襯錦地，邊起回紋欄。盒側描金，一面中心書「壽」字，兩旁繪葫蘆藤蔓、花卉。器底中心陰刻描金「乾隆年製」方款。木色深紫瑩潤，牛毛紋細密，為清代文房木盒。紫檀木質堅緻，色紫紅，紋理細如牛毛，生長緩慢，明清以來即為高級硬木，多用於宮廷家具、文房小件。清代紫檀盒多作長方、海棠式，蓋面或浮雕、或鏤空，盒側常描金、鑲銀絲。此件蓋面鏤空纏枝，既透氣又華美，側描金壽字葫蘆，取福壽之意，多用以盛墨、盛箋。 A zitan wood rectangular box. The body is flat and square; the lid has a reserved panel openwork-carved with scrolling melon and fruit patterns over a diaper ground, bordered by a keyfret rail. The sides are painted in gilt: a central shou character flanked by gourd vines and flowers. The base centre bears a gilt-filled square mark reading Qianlong nianzhi. The wood is deep purple with fine hair-like grain. Zitan is dense, purplish-red, with hair-fine grain; slow-growing, it has been a premier hardwood since the Ming-Qing, used for palace furniture and small desk wares. Qing zitan boxes are often rectangular or lobed, with relief or openwork lids, gilt painting or silver-wire inlay on the sides. The openwork scrolling design here is both decorative and pierced, and the gilt shou and gourd vines wish fortune and long life; the box held ink or letters.
