A BRONZE EAGLE WITH SPREAD WINGS, PERCHED ON A PIERCED BRONZE STAND 尺寸:L:45cm;H:54cm 銅鑄。 A bronze eagle with wings fully spread as if about to launch. Layered feathers are cast in relief with detailed quills; the head is lowered and the hooked beak retains trace gilding, the talons gripping a horizontal bar. The bird perches on a cast bracket stand with openwork scrolling sides and ruyi-cloud feet. The black patina gives it an imposing presence. In Chinese tradition the eagle signifies courage and far sight; the hawk striking across the wide sky evokes lofty ambition. Hunters and warriors kept eagle emblems to steel their resolve, while literati read the bird as an emblem of valour. Cast with meticulous feather detail, this piece suited a hall or studio desk.
