英文品名:A BRONZE BUDDHISTIC LION CENSER 尺寸:H:36cm 銅鑄。 A bronze censer in the form of a crouching Buddhist lion with head raised and jaws open. The mane is cast in spirals over neck and shoulders, the collar carries a bell, one front paw is raised and the tail sweeps up in flame-like lobes. The body forms the censer; the head lifts off, so that smoke issues from the mouth. The dark brown patina retains gilding on the teeth. The lion entered China with Buddhism as Sinhha, the fearless guardian of the dharma. Lion-form incense burners date back to the Tang-Song: smoke curling from the open mouth evokes the lion's roar of the Buddha's teaching. Placed in studios and chapels, such burners served incense and acted as guardians.
