英文品名：A BRONZE LU-DUAN CENSER 尺寸：H:18cm 銅鑄。熏爐作甪端形，獸身圓碩，四足直立，獨角後掠，闊口張開，鬃鬣作螺旋披於頸間。首即爐蓋，可啟合；尾作鏤空火焰形，為出煙處。銅皮墨綠夾紅斑，古樸厚重。甪端傳為神異之獸，日行萬八千里，通曉四方語言，知一切之事，唯伴聖明之君。故宮太和殿舊設甪端，取明君在朝、遠人來服之意。其形香爐置於殿堂，香自尾出，既示祥瑞，亦表君門廣聽。 A bronze censer in the form of a lu-duan: a rounded beast standing on four legs with a single swept-back horn and an open mouth; spiral mane curls about its neck. The head lifts off as the cover, and the openwork flame-shaped tail serves as the smoke vent. The green-black patina carries red flecks. The lu-duan is a mythic beast said to travel eighteen thousand li a day and understand every tongue, appearing only beside an enlightened ruler. Bronze lu-duan once stood in the Hall of Supreme Harmony, signalling sage rule and the submission of distant lands; its censer form, smoke rising from the tail, carried the same auspicious meaning.
