A GILT-SPLASHED BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER WITH BRIDGE EARS, BEARING A "DA MING XUANDE NIANZHI" MARK 尺寸:D:12.5cm;H:8cm 銅質,沖天耳三足爐。 This bronze incense burner has a compressed globular body rising to a pair of upright, slightly flared bridge handles, supported on three teat feet. Against the dark, seasoned brown ground, irregular flakes of gold are scattered across the surface in varying sizes, the gilt-splashed finish. The base is cast with a raised square six-character seal-script mark, Da Ming Xuande nianzhi. Finely cast with a mellow patina and rounded, balanced lines. Xuande-type censers are famed for their refined copper and rounded lines. Here the full body on three teat feet and the upright bridge ears suit table incense; seasoned brown ground is splashed with gold flakes, sparse and dense like falling snow, rich yet restrained. Scholar incense seeks a warm burner, fine incense and a slow fire; in this rounded vessel aloeswood and sandalwood smoulder, fragrance rising slowly from the mouth, ranking with tea, flowers and scrolls among studio pursuits.
