A QING CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL ON BRONZE ROUNDED-CORNER FLOWER POT WITH FORTUNE AND LONGEVITY 尺寸:L:30cm;W:20cm;H:13cm 銅胎掐絲琺瑯。 A cloisonné enamel flower pot on a bronze body, of rounded-corner rectangular form, with a gilt rim and ruyi-cloud feet. The body has a turquoise ground covered in scrolling lotus, bats and shou characters, the bats in flight, flowers in red and white, with key-fret and cloud patterns on the sides. The enamels are full and the cloisons crisp. Cloisonné enamel, known in Chinese as jingtailan after its flourishing under the Jingtai Emperor, is made as follows: a copper body is formed; narrow bronze wires are bent to outline the design and soldered on; cells are filled with coloured enamel paste and fired; because the paste shrinks, it is refilled and fired three or four times, ground level with the wires under water, and finally the rims and foot are gilded. A turquoise ground is the classic court palette from Xuande onward. The Imperial Workshops' cloisonné office produced it, reaching its peak under Qianlong.
