The neck carries a band of scrolling beasts, the shoulder banana-leaf pendants, and the body a large taotie mask on a key-fret ground, with a further beast band near the foot. Two animal-mask ring handles flank the shoulders. The greenish patina is encrusted and archaic. The bronze hu has a short neck and full belly, a splayed foot, and paired beast-mask ring handles at the shoulders, sober and balanced. Its decoration is layered: a beast band on the neck, pendant banana leaves at the shoulder, a large taotie mask on a key-fret ground across the belly, and a further beast band near the foot — the protruding eyes stern and clear. Placed in the studio for a flowering branch, the encrusted green patina is finely aged.
