明 銅鎏金燃燈佛坐像

英文品名：A MING GILT-BRONZE SEATED FIGURE OF DIPANKARA BUDDHA 尺寸：H:12cm 銅鎏金。佛陀結跏趺坐，螺髻高起，面容和藹含笑。右手下垂施與願印，左手置腹前結禪定印，袈裟右袒，衣褶流轉自然。下承仰覆蓮座，蓮瓣飽滿。鎏金有磨損，皮色古樸溫潤，為明代佛教造像。燃燈佛，梵名 Dipankara，又作定光佛、錠光佛，為過去莊嚴劫中出世之本師。佛經載釋迦牟尼前生為儒童，曾以青蓮花五莖獻燃燈佛，並散髮泥塗令佛蹈過，燃燈佛即授記：汝來世當成佛，號釋迦牟尼。故燃燈佛為過去佛，與現在釋迦、未來彌勒並稱三世佛。像多作右手下垂，為釋迦授記時之姿態。 A gilt-bronze Buddha seated in vajrasana, with a high ushnisha and a gentle smiling face. The right hand falls in varada mudra and the left rests in the lap in dhyana mudra; the robe leaves the right shoulder bare and falls in natural folds. The figure rests on an upturned-and-down-turned lotus base with plump petals. The gilding is worn, the patina warm. Dipankara, the Lamp-Born Buddha, is the Buddha of the past kalpa. Sutras relate that Shakyamuni, in a former life as the youth Sumati, offered five blue lotuses to Dipankara and spread his hair over mud so the Buddha could walk across; Dipankara then foretold that the youth would become a Buddha named Shakyamuni. Hence Dipankara forms, with Shakyamuni of the present and Maitreya of the future, the Buddhas of the Three Ages. The lowered right hand records the moment of the prophecy.
