The face smiles benevolently. The robes fall naturally and the figure stands on a square base. The bronze is red-brown with an ancient patina. It is a Ming standing God of Wealth. The God of Wealth was among the most venerated folk deities, in civil and martial forms: civil gods Bigan and Fan Li, martial gods Zhao Gongming and Guan Gong. Here the tray carries a pixiu or three-legged gold toad—the Liu Hai and toad motif, a money-spraying auspicious beast. Wealth gods usually wear civil-official dress, smiling, placed in shop or home shrines to invite prosperity.
