英文品名：A BRONZE STANDING FIGURE OF THE BIRTH BUDDHA (NEWBORN SIDDHARTHA), MING DYNASTY 尺寸：H:16.5cm 此像為銅鑄，誕生佛站立，頭剃髮，滿面稚氣，裸身著肚兜，一手指天、一手指地，足踏蓮臺。神態天真而莊嚴。衣紋簡練，銅皮深褐古厚，中空內膛。為明代銅誕生佛像。相傳釋迦牟尼誕生時，東西南北各行七步，一手指天、一手指地，曰「天上天下，唯我獨尊」。是為誕生佛，又稱指天畫地佛。佛教於農曆四月初八佛誕日舉行浴佛法會，以香水沐浴誕生佛像。明清寺觀及家中佛堂多供誕生銅像，一手指天一手指地，象徵佛性至尊。 This bronze Birth Buddha stands with shaved head, childlike face, bare torso in a belly sash, one hand pointing to heaven and one to earth, feet on a lotus. The expression is innocent yet solemn. The bronze is dark brown, hollow-cast. It is a Ming image of the newborn Buddha. According to tradition, at his birth Sakyamuni took seven steps north, south, east and west, one hand pointing to heaven and one to earth, declaring, 'In heaven and on earth, I alone am honoured.' This is the Birth Buddha. On the eighth day of the fourth lunar month (Buddha's birthday), temples hold bathing ceremonies, sprinkling scented water on the image. Ming-Qing temples and home shrines displayed such bronzes, the upraised hands symbolizing the supremacy of Buddhahood.
